Pregnancy can significantly disrupt the physical, emotional, and mental balance of pregnant women, causing extreme exhaustion and discomfort. Prenatal Yoga is a wonderful and unique way to address the varying needs of carrying women and the fetus. Several gentle yoga practices aim to rejuvenate and revitalize the whole body, providing numerous benefits to the pregnant woman practicing them. Regular yoga practice during this phase helps them to stay active, agile, and flexible. Maintaining stability of both body and mind, prenatal yoga prepares women to receive and connect with the baby.  

Though it’s no no-brainer that prenatal yoga can provide numerous benefits, it is essential to take certain precautions to safeguard health. Certain tips are given below:

Yoga is a highly beneficial practice, regardless of age or gender. However, certain health conditions, including pregnancy, are crucial factors to consider before choosing to practice yoga. It is essential to take your physical health into account and consult a physician to get approval for yoga practice, as the body and mind both become vulnerable during this phase. Doctors can better advise on the best approach for your specific needs. 



  1. Listen to Your Body


Every human is different, and their bodies too. This is especially true during difficult phases like pregnancy. Your body will send you the right signals, and ignoring them might prove fatal for your health.  So, always listen to your body, understand its limitations and take regular breaks. During times of pain and discomfort, or shortness of breath, stop the practice immediately. 



  1. Choose a Prenatal Yoga Class


Yoga is beneficial in general. However, during pregnancy, you should choose prenatal yoga. As the condition requires special attention, comprehensive yoga classes structured to suit your specific needs are a must. 



  1. Avoid Certain Poses


As pregnancy makes the body weak and vulnerable, all the yoga poses may not be advisable. Avoid asanas, which place unwanted pressure and strain on the body.  Try to do away with deep twists, hot yoga, and poses that require you to lie flat on your back or put pressure on your abdomen.



  1. Use Props and Modifications


As the body requires additional support, you can use blocks, straps, and blankets to bolster your body. Also, modify the poses as needed.

Staying hydrated is immensely important. Don’t forget to drink plenty of water before, during, and after yoga sessions. 



  1. Be Mindful of Your Core


Try to avoid yoga poses that stretch core muscles intensely and put pressure on your abdominal wall, leading to difficult health conditions.
